£6,500 donation from Cambridge Roar 2018

Cambridge United Community Trust are absolutely delighted to receive a donation from The Cambridge Roar for £6,500. This is the second year running in which we have received a donation from the Roar bringing the total amount raised over the two years to £16,500. In just 4 years, the Roar has raised £107,000 for local charities and the whole Roar team should be congratulated for their marvellous efforts.

Ben Szreter, CEO of Cambridge United Community Trust, said of the donation “Cambridge Roar’s fantastic fundraising in 2018 will make a significant difference to what CUCT can achieve in our community again next year. The work of the Roar team is much appreciated and not only do they raise a great amount of money for charity but they also put on exhilarating events.”

The Cambridge Roar 2018 held 8 different fundraising events at Quy Mill Hotel & Spa and it was a pleasure to be at all of the events! Cambridge Roar’s fervent fundraising within the Cambridgeshire business community is crucial, not solely in terms of the money we have received but also in raising awareness of our programmes. The money raised this year was split between ourselves and 3 other other local charities: Arthur Rank Hospice, East Anglia Air Ambulance & Racing Welfare.

First up and new for this year was the Football Heroes Dinner. This was a fantastic evening with 4 Cambridge United legends taking part: David Moyes, Steve Claridge, John Taylor & the Trust’s very own Graham Daniels! Sharing their ‘United’ memories, the evening brought together the business community with the football world and provided a fantastic launch for the Roar 18 events!

Following this were the Amateur Boxing Black Tie dinner, the exclusive Champagne Dinner supported by Moet & Chandon and the very popular B2B Exhibition supported by The Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce. Alongside this was the Business Games, in which the charities team took part!

July saw the Racing Dinner return with Newmarket Racecourse and Discover Newmarket partnering the event. The Afternoon Tea also took place in July and included bingo on a very hot summer’s day! The schedule of events finished with the outstanding ‘Greatest Ball’ in September, the Roar’s take on the blockbusting film, ‘The Greatest Showman’!

We are immensely grateful to the Cambridge Roar for supporting us in 2017 & 2018 and the money raised will help us to use the power of sport and the brand of Cambridge United Football Club to empower lives in our key areas of health, education & inclusion.
